Overview
SF State maintains a fleet of small boats that are available for scientific research use by University students, faculty and staff.
To use these boats, you must complete some basic boating forms and a waiver, take an appropriate boat safety training course, be current in CPR and first aid, and demonstrate safe boat handling.
Motorboat Operators Training Course (MOTC)
The MOTC is a three day, Department of Interior approved safety course that SF State requires as minimum-level training for all students, faculty and staff conducting research and education using powered watercraft. This course is held at the SF State field station in Tiburon twice each year in Spring and Fall. Additional MOTC events may be offered through partner institutions. Contact the SF State Marine Superintendent if you wish to participate in the MOTC and read about the course here.
