The mission of San Francisco State University Marine Operations is to support university students and faculty conducting research and education by providing research vessels, scientific diving, safety training and field logistics support.
SF State manages the Research Vessel Questuary, one of the only dedicated university research vessel working on San Francisco Bay and the Delta. Located at the university field station Romberg Tiburon Center for Environmental Studies (RTC) in Tiburon, California, the R/V Questuary is an ideal platform for estuarine research and is equipped for a wide range of oceanographic sampling and educational missions. In addition to the R/V Questuary, SF State Marine Operations maintains a fleet of small research boats that are available for use by university students, faculty and staff.
Scuba diving is an integral component to sub-aquatic research and SF State Marine Operations manages the Scientific Diving Program for the university. The Scientific Diving Program provides advanced scuba and life saving skills training to university students and faculty and assists in conducting sub-aquatic research.
SF State Marine Operations believes that well trained individuals are essential to meeting safe and successful research goals. Our Safety Training Program provides multiple levels of training including small boat operations, scientific diving and advanced lifesaving skills.
SF State Marine Operations can help you plan your research or education field logistics, including site assessment and cruise planning, oceanographic equipment and personnel support.
